International Youth Day Observation


International youth day was observed in Kerala with various activities as per the guidelines issued by NACO and with other programmes. Besides Kerala SACS Department of Health, Medical and Nursing colleges, directorate of Higher Secondary Education, NYK, RRCs, Youth clubs, organizations working in the field of voluntary blood donation and DAPCU etc . are actively participated in organizing IYD-2015.Various programmes  were organized in association with the day observance based on this year’s theme ‘’ Youth civic Engagement-Kadam Badhao- a step towards change”.


The state art and youth exhibition mela (SAYEM) was organized for the students from RRCs, and youth from NYKs, Youth clubs etc. They are directed to create craft materials or articles with cloth, paper mud etc. inscripting HIV/AIDS messages on it. A prize amount of Rs.10.000,5000,and 3000 was also announced for the first second and third prize winners respectively.

 An oath taking ceremony was conducted in all Red Ribbon Clubs .Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, N.S.S. state Liaison Officer   issued necessary guidelines   for observing the oath taking ceremony. In addition to schools and colleges, youth clubs, voluntary organizations working  among youth also  took the pledge before the voluntary blood donation camps organized in association with the IYD-2015.



Kerala SACS has issued necessary guidelines to organize human chains in order to gain public attention To the importance of the day observance. Kerala SACS ,DAPCU Kozhikode and RRC of Malabar Christian college, Kozhikode jointly organized a public programme  at Malabar  Christian College Kozhikode. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Peeyush  Namboodiri, DACO &  Addl.DMO, Prof. Pavamony  Mary Gladys, Principal Malabar Christian College, Sri.K.J. Michel, DPM, Sri. Sunil Kumar ,JD (IEC), Sri. Sadeek Kottackal , DAPCU, Kozhikode etc. participated in the programme .A large human chain in the shape of red ribbon was formed in Malabar Christian College ground.



A state level essay writing competition was organized in Kerala for the students in Higher secondary classes. The theme   was ‘’Life Skills for HIV Prevention” .Directorate of Higher Secondary Education issued guidelines for conducting the competition. The entries were short listed at the school level and are directed to SACS with the covering letter of the principals, co9ncerned.The first second and third prize winners of the completion will be awarded with prize money of Rs.5000,3000, and Rs.2000 respectievely.37 entries were shortlisted for the state level competition.


Colleges , Youth clubs and voluntary organizations organized rallies throughout the state as the part of International Youth Day observance. Kerala SACS has developed a tag line “ YOUth CAN ”  for state level  branding of IYD-2015. The designs were distributed in all colleges and Higher Secondary schools for making banners and posters. The rally organized by the students of government nursing college Calicut captured large public and media attention.



As part of IYD-2015   colleges ,District Medical Office and Mass Media wings, Blood Banks and  N.G.Os working in the field of voluntary blood donation etc. organized public awareness programmes and voluntary blood donation camps. A massive blood donation camp was organized by District Medical Office Kottayam, Pala Blood Donors Forum and Devamatha College, Kuruvilangad. All these programmes were   acquired a lot of public attention on the importance of  observing International Youth Day.
